We Believe, the documentary about the Cubs 100 years of futility and the fans who root for them anyway is coming to a theater near you. The film had its theatrical debut in Chicago on June 12. I haven’t been able to determine a schedule for the film to be rolled out elsewhere.
From the website:
Directed by John Scheinfeld, (The U.S. vs. John Lennon), this feature film documentary is a celebration of hope, loyalty, faith and the extraordinary love affair between a great city and its baseball team. We Believe, explores the relationship between Chicago, the Cubs and their loyal fans.
Starring, nine current players, Lou Piniella, Hugh Heffner, Billy Corgan, Ernie Banks, Joe Mantegna, Ron Santo, former players, politicians, historians and the fans, this film gives the world a look into the unique city of Chicago and why its people are so passionate about the Cubs.
The Chicago Cubs and the City of Chicago will be brilliantly combined in this powerful and passionate documentary film set against the 2008 baseball season and the 100th Anniversary of the last Cubs win at the World Series. Filming for the documentary has been underway since February 2008 the opening of Cubs Spring Training Camp in Mesa, Arizona. The filming will be completed at the end of the CUBS 2008 season and the documentary will be released in early 2009.
I’m a huge Cubs fan (I write a Cubs blog at CubsNotebook.com) and am looking forward to seeing this movie, even though I know about the painful ending. I’ll try to find a distribution schedule as soon as I can. In the meantime, take a look at the trailer:
